Our blankets are handcrafted from recycled fabric and a whole lot of love. They are made out of Saris that have been passed down, carefully chosen and laundered, and transformed into these stunning pieces. There are no two blankets that are exactly the same. You can use these as throws, as blankets, as rugs, the choice is yours! The blankets add a little spice and brightens up any room. If you don't see a pattern you like right now, check back often as we're constantly finding new fabrics to up-cycle and make new blankets.
Meraki has partnered with Prokritee to bring you handcrafted blankets. Prokritee is a fair trade company in Bangladesh supporting over 1,500 artisans in rural areas. Prokritee promotes participation, cooperation and teamwork among their artisans. The blankets we have chosen to have made with Prokritee are handmade by women who were former sex workers that suffered abuse, victimization, trauma, and pain. The production centre was set up as an alternative for these women.
Prokritee is a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO). Being a WFTO member signifies that Prokritee provides their producers with safe working conditions. In addition, it represents the manufacturers support in the battle against poverty and inequality. Purchases of products that have the WFTO label supports small producers and their communities.
Meraki has also partnered with Nisa Homes to give back to the community. For every purchase of a blanket, we will provide Nisa Homes shelters with a blanket.
Nisa Homes is a group of long-term shelters for immigrant, refugee and Muslim women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Nisa Homes provides a safe and supportive space for women to develop the tools needed to achieve independence and self-sustainability.
